The 7th annual Skyway 10K race, set to take place soon, promises an exhilarating experience for participants while supporting a noble cause. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you navigate through the event seamlessly.
What is it?
The Skyway 10K is a 6.2-mile race across the iconic Bob Graham Sunshine Skyway Bridge. The event aims to raise funds for the Armed Forces Families Foundation, with approximately 8,000 racers expected to join in support of this cause. Participants have the flexibility to run or walk the race, enjoying the breathtaking views along the way.
Where Should I Go?
Racers are instructed to assemble at Tropicana Field, where free parking will be available. In case the Tropicana Field lot reaches capacity, racers may need to park on surrounding streets. From there, buses will transport participants to the starting point in Manatee County. After completing the race, shuttles will return racers to Tropicana Field for post-race celebrations. Even if you’re there to support a runner, Tropicana Field is the place to be for all the excitement after the race.
When is it?
The race is scheduled for Sunday, March 3. Racers should have received their designated bus departure times and are advised to arrive at Tropicana Field at least one hour before their scheduled departure. There will be four waves of buses departing at different times starting from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. It’s crucial to adhere to the assigned departure time as missed buses may result in being unable to participate, with no refunds available. Race day festivities will continue at Tropicana Field from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Bridge Closure
The northbound lanes of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge will close at 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, reopening at 11 a.m. Meanwhile, the southbound lanes will remain operational. Drivers traveling southbound are urged to exercise caution and stay alert during this time.
Pre-Race Expo
An exciting pre-race expo will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Tropicana Field Parking Lot 1. This expo serves as an opportunity for runners to collect their race packets. Racers must bring a photo ID and their bib number for packet pickup. Those unable to collect their packet personally can authorize a friend or family member by completing a third-party packet pick-up form.
Things to Know
Participants are reminded to carry water bottles no larger than 24 ounces, and they must be clear plastic. Glass containers are strictly prohibited, although water stations will be available throughout the course. Certain items such as selfie sticks, backpacks, strollers, baby joggers, skateboards, rollerblades, bicycles, weapons, and animals are not permitted on the course. However, GoPro cameras will be allowed when securely attached to a chest or head strap.
As the Skyway 10K approaches, participants and supporters alike eagerly anticipate the event, ready to embrace the challenge and the camaraderie it brings while supporting a worthy cause.
