Los Angeles Dodgers Hit by Injury Woes: Four Pitchers Benched on Injured List

SportsLos Angeles Dodgers Hit by Injury Woes: Four Pitchers Benched on Injured List

This evening, the Los Angeles Dodgers selected their lineup for the Seoul Series. Brusdar Graterol, Blake Treinen, Walker Buehler, and Emmet Sheehan are the four pitchers that Los Angeles placed on the 10-day injured list despite not making any 40-man moves.

None of those come as a huge surprise. Early in training, the Dodgers said that Buehler would be placed on the injured list in order to avoid pressing him too soon after he missed the previous season recovering from a second Tommy John surgery. Sheehan’s injury was reported by the team as forearm irritation. At first look, that seems a little unexpected given that they had previously stated he was experiencing shoulder trouble. Thankfully, Sheehan is still pitching to batters and this isn’t a new issue, according to Fabian Ardaya of the Athletic (on X).

Treinen and Graterol were both hurt in the spring. Graterol’s throwing shoulder discomfort and tight hips have caused a delay. The latter injury was cited by the Dodgers as the cause of the IL placement. On March 9, during a Spring Training game, Treinen was struck by a comebacker, which resulted in a bruised lung.

The Dodgers seem to be taking things slowly in this series, so none of the injuries seem to be very significant. Landon Knack, a righty, may get a chance to make his major league debut thanks to the placements. The Dodgers selected his deal during the offseason, so he will start the season in the bullpen.

In 2020, Knack, now 26 years old, signed as a senior at East Tennessee State. Throughout his minor league career, the former second-round selection has put up impressive stats. Last season, he split 22 starts between the top two minor league levels, recording a 2.51 ERA.

Naturally, Thursday will be L.A.’s much-anticipated debut big league game. Joe Musgrove will start opposite Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the season’s second game. On Wednesday, Tyler Glasnow and Yu Darvish will take the lead.
