At the Academy Awards, Jimmy Kimmel is mocking Sen. Katie Britt, an Alabama Republican, for her widely ridiculed State of the Union answer.
During the 96th annual Oscars on Sunday, the late-night TV presenter made a number of quick jokes, largely directed at the Hollywood celebrities present at the Los Angeles ceremony.
However, Jimmy Kimmel made a jab at Britt in an otherwise politically neutral speech, without to address the lawmaker by name.
Kimmel described Emma Stone as “an adult woman with the brain of a child,” in reference to the actor’s Oscar-nominated performance in the movie “Poor Things.”
Kimmel joked, “Like the lady who gave the rebuttal to the State of the Union,” to chuckles from the crowd.
Britt faced harsh criticism on social media for what critics called a “melodramatic” response to President Biden’s State of the Union speech on Thursday. She was also mocked on “Saturday Night Live,” where Scarlett Johansson played her.
Former President Trump’s frequent critic Kimmel had warned CNN that, depending on the news cycle, he might insert a political jab into his monologue “at the last minute” during the Oscars.
